Emory University Archives Adds More Yearbooks to the MARBL Website

Emory University Archives has added more volumes to the digital collection of Emory yearbooks available online. Emory University’s yearbook, The Campus, is now available for the years 1964-1999. Yearbooks from the Atlanta College of Physicians and Surgeons, Atlanta Medical College, Southern Dental College, Atlanta-Southern Dental College, and Atlanta-Southern Medical College are also now viewable for the years 1911-1944. These volumes are in addition to the Emory College yearbooks from 1893-1910 and Emory University yearbooks from 1911-1963 that were already available via the MARBL website.

The yearbooks are popular research material in the Archives. Student headshots offer genealogists and researchers a glimpse of family members or research subjects, often for the first time, as well as information about enrollment, courses of study, and years of graduation. Researchers should remember, however, that not all students sat for yearbook photographs.

Furthermore, the yearbooks are snapshots of over a century of Emory culture. One page from the 1977 Emory University Campus yearbook evidences early parking woes on campus with a headline “All The Pizza You Can Eat, But No Parking Anywhere.” The yearbooks also showcase faculty, special events, and student organizations for those interested in learning about the history of Emory campus life.
