Elizabeth Fulton Wins Annie Hall Award

Congratulations to Elizabeth Fulton, 1st prize winner in the 2024 Annie Hall Awards; A contest recognizing outstanding undergraduate projects (papers, web projects, or podcasts) developed while enrolled in a Film & Media course or cross-listed course. This was the first AAS course-related paper to garner this award.

Elizabeth won first prize for her essay “Defining Black Middle Class Romance: A Subgenre Exploration,” her final paper in Dr. Kimberly Wallace-Sanders’ course FILM/AAS 385: Black Middle Class in Film. Elizabeth received extensive feedback from Dr. Wallace-Sanders and says that this guidance was integral to writing the excellent essay that won first prize.

Dr. Wallace-Sanders’ research explores African American visual culture with an emphasis on gender and 19th and early 20th century photography.  “The Black Middle Class in Film” was inspired by her 2023 course ,“The Black Middle Class and Visual Culture.
