On March 22nd, 2019, Tianyuan “Sam” Zhang successfully defended his thesis, “Developments of efficient methods for static and dynamical correlation”. His thesis committee included his advisor, Dr. Francesco Evangelista and members Dr. Joel Bowman and Dr. James Kindt.

On March 20th, 2019, Ziwei Guo successfully defended his thesis, “Monte Carlo Simulation of Grain Boundaries Between Ordered Colloidal Hard Sphere Domains”. Ziwei’s thesis committee included his thesis advisor, Dr. James Kindt and members Dr. Joel Bowman and Dr. Francesco Evangelista.
During his time at Emory, he published 5 articles and was the recipient of the 2018 Quayle Student Achievement Award. Up next, Ziwei plans to pursue a career in industry.

On Wednesday, March 13th, Qiuyang Li successfully defended his thesis entitled “Physical properties and Dynamics of Excitons in Cadmium Chalcogenide 2D Nanoplatelets for Lasing and Solar-to-Fuel Conversion”. Qiuyang’s thesis committee included his thesis advisor, Dr. Tianquan Lian, and members Dr. James Kindt and Dr. Michael Heaven.
His favorite parts of grad school have been attending a group BBQ at Dr. Lian’s home and becoming a scientist. He is looking forward to continuing his academic career with a postdoc.

On March 12th, 2019, Jessica Petree successfully defended her thesis based on her research from the Salaita Lab. Jessica’s thesis committee included her advisor, Dr. Khalid Salaita and members Dr. Stefan Lutz and Dr. David Lynn.
During her time at Emory, Jessica was an ARCS fellow, published in ACS Chem Bio, was an NSF Honorable Mention, and participated in the Atlanta Science Festival.

On February 1st, 2019, Colleen Keohane successfully defended her thesis, “Promysalin and CD437: Compounds Investigating New Antibacterial Mechanisms”. Colleen’s thesis committee included her advisor, Dr. Bill Wuest and members Dr. Dennis Liotta, and Dr. David Lynn.
Now, Colleen is pursuing her career as Scientist at Janssen US.

On January 14th, 2019, Kevin Sullivan successfully defended his thesis, “Oxidative Studies in Decontamination and Water Oxidation Catalysis” Kevin’s thesis committee included his advisor, Dr. Craig Hill and members Dr. Cora MacBeth and Dr. Vince Conticello.

On December 20th, 2018, Matt Epplin successfully defended his thesis, “The Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of Subunit-Selective Modulators of the N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor”. Matt’s thesis committee included his advisor, Dr. Dennis Liotta and members Dr. Frank McDonald, Dr. David Lynn, and Dr. Stephen Traynelis.
During his time at Emory, he developed chemical tools for NMDA towards understanding neuropsychiatric disease. Now, Matt is looking forward to starting his postdoc at Stanford with Dr. Noah Burns.
