AUDITION FAQs

  • Where are auditions?

Dr. Nelson’s office, Rm. 301 in the Schwartz Center – 1700 North Decatur Rd. Click here for an interactive map if you are unsure where the Schwartz Center is.

  • What will I do in the audition?

Dr. Nelson will ask you about your previous choral experience, vocalize you through your range, and ask you to sightread.

  • Do I need to bring a prepared piece?

This is optional. If you have one, it would be to your advantage to sing a prepared piece. It gives you an opportunity to show your musicality and phrasing.

  • What if I don’t have a prepared piece?

    Not a problem.

  • What style does the prepared piece need to be?

Classical is best, but a folk song is also acceptable.

  • Do I need an accompanist?

No, Dr. Nelson will serve as your accompanist.

  • Where is the first rehearsal?

On stage in the Schwartz Center.

  • When will I know if I made it into Concert Choir?

The roster will be posted outside Dr. Nelson’s office soon after auditions  are completed.
