Jinho Choi, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Data and Decision Sciences, and his research team are being honored by the Emory Office of Technology Transfer with their annual Innovation of the Year award. Their project â€śTinker Tales: Interactive AI Storytelling for Early Learners” is an innovative dual-format AI literacy platform combining NFC-embedded physical storytelling pieces with a mobile app featuring conversational AI to teach K-2 students proper human-AI collaboration skills. The platform addresses the critical gap in early childhood AI education by positioning children as active collaborators with AI systems rather than passive consumers. The hybrid physical-digital approach leverages familiar play patterns through tactile game board format while introducing advanced AI collaboration concepts through co-creation of stories. The project aims to create a market-ready MVP featuring enhanced AI agents with reading comprehension capabilities, commercial-grade NFC storytelling components, comprehensive user studies validation, and parent customization interfaces for institutional deployment.
