Canvas Release Highlights for September 2024

The highlights for September 2024 are new formatting options for SpeedGrader submission comments and reduced data latency in New Analytics. Some teachers will also notice a button to make all of their discussions threaded on the Discussions index page.

New text formatting options are available in the SpeedGrader submission comments sidebar: Heading, Bold, Italic, Underline, Font color, Insert Hyperlink, Bullets. Click here to read the notes for the September 11, 2024 deploy, which contained these changes. Instructure plans to add the Equation Editor function to the Rich Content Editor in SpeedGrader in the September 25, 2024 code deploy.

New Analytics data snapshots will be refreshed more frequently. The data latency should be reduced to less than one day. Instructure is migrating institutions throughout September, and it appears that we have been migrated as of this post. Click here for the full September 21, 2024 release notes.

A banner with a “Make All Discussions Threaded” button displays in courses where discussions may have been set not to allow threading (replies to replies) inadvertently when Instructure released the “Disallow Threaded Replies” checkbox (August 14, 2024). Teachers who see the banner and wish for all their discussions to allow threading should click Make All Discussions Threaded. Teachers who do not want to update their discussion settings in bulk should click Dismiss. At this time, Instructure plans for the banners to appear through October 31, 2024.
