{"id":104,"date":"2018-12-20T14:01:46","date_gmt":"2018-12-20T19:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/ebcc\/?page_id=104"},"modified":"2024-08-26T10:40:02","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T14:40:02","slug":"timeline","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/ebcc\/timeline\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Timeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>The EBCC will run two cohorts of projects each school year &#8211; one in the fall semester, and one in the spring &#8211; with similar outlines.\u00a0 Each cohort will consist of up to six (6) projects, based on the number of start-up ventures available through Emory&#8217;s Office of Tech Transfer (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ott.emory.edu\/\"><strong>OTT<\/strong><\/a>).\u00a0 Projects that are funded through the Georgia Research Alliance (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/gra.org\/\">GRA<\/a><\/strong>) and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biolocity.gatech.edu\/\">Biolocity<\/a><\/strong> will be given precedence each year. See below for a short description of typical events for each EBCC cohort.<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-285 aligncenter\" 14pt\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: 12pt\">Each cohort of the EBCC will commence with a kickoff event to highlight the projects that are participating and the representatives for each start-up venture.\u00a0 These events will allow students\/postdocs to determine if their experiences and interests align with specific projects, and to apply to join.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b style=\"color: #0000ff;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Assign Teams<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #300086;font-size: 14pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Within one week of the kickoff event, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/ebcc\/executive-board\/\">executive board<\/a><\/strong> will assign teams of approximately five (5) students to each start-up venture based on interest and experiences.\u00a0 Applications will be made available at the kickoff to gather information that can help improve team dynamic.\u00a0 Student project leaders will be assigned based on relative experience, and preference given to former EBCC members.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0066cc\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Meet Team<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #300086;font-size: 14pt\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\"><br \/>\nFollowing the formation of teams, one executive board member will help coordinate a meeting between the selected students, the representative(s) from the start-up venture, and an OTT officer that is assigned to the project.\u00a0 At this meeting, non-disclosure agreements will be signed, and expectations of deliverables will be determined.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00b050\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Project Update<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #300086;font-size: 14pt\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\"><br \/>\nParticipation in EBCC will not be trivial, and will likely require a few hours of dedicated work each week.\u00a0 Each project will have specific needs and expectations, and deadlines may exist that lead to longer work weeks than others.\u00a0 It is recommended that groups establish a schedule to follow throughout the semester, and plan to meet with the representative(s) from the start-up venture bi-weekly to discuss progress and next steps.\u00a0 Executive board members should also be updated on progress, and will liaise between students and representatives in the event of conflict.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffcc00\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Expert Advice<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #300086;font-size: 14pt\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\"><br \/>\nAn external expert will be hired for each cohort, and be hosted on campus one day during the semester to consult the teams about their projects and to evaluate progress.\u00a0 The expert will be hosted approximately halfway through each semester in order to allow adequate time for project goals to pivot, based on the recommendations.\u00a0 Experts may be from C-suite positions from biotech companies, management consultants, or venture capitalists, among many others.\u00a0 These meetings will help to curate next steps for projects, expand networks, and to provide direct access to\u00a0 non-traditional careers for EBCC members.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Project Update<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #300086;font-size: 14pt\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">Project updates in the second half of the semester will continue, and may require more frequent scheduling.\u00a0 In addition to reaching project expectations of deliverables and any milestones suggested by external experts, teams will need to prepare and practice a short summary of work to be presented at a gala event.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">EBCC Gala<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #300086;font-size: 14pt\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\"><br \/>\nThe EBCC will celebrate each cohort with a gala event that has the representative(s) from the start-up ventures introduce their technology, team, and semester objectives.\u00a0 The teams will then pitch their work to a panel of experts and guests, and receive
