FAQ

What is Emory College Scholar Finalists’ Week?

Emory College Scholar Finalist Week is a program that welcomes the top 1% of Emory’s admitted students and introduces them to Emory’s transformative intellectual community.

As a Scholar Finalist, you will have opportunities to interact with other finalists for merit scholarships, meet current Scholars, talk with professors and researchers, and learn about academic and extracurricular life at Emory.

Is there an on-campus portion of Scholar Finalists’ Week?

Students who reside in the US will have their interviews conducted in-person on Emory’s campus, but students residing outside of the US will have all portions of the finalist selection processes conducted virtually.

Why are students outside the US not coming to campus to interview?

Because of challenges with getting visas quickly enough and the length of time for many finalists to make it from their home to Atlanta and back, we are using a virtual process this year. Keeping all students outside the US in the same virtual format allows for greater fairness in the process.

How do I confirm my spot as a Finalist?

Please refer to the email address you provided for further correspondence on how to confirm your spot and register for virtual or in-person finalist selection.

Does participation in the selection process and interviews commit me to attending Emory?

No, you are not bound to Emory through finalist participation. However, in order to be considered for Emory’s merit scholarships, you must participate in the selection process. This consists of:

  • Asynchronous video interviews on Kira, to be completed before Monday, March 11 at 5pm Eastern Time.
  • For virtual participants: Virtual group interviews Wednesday, March 27, 9am-12pm Eastern Time.
  • For on-campus participants: Group activities and interviews between March 24-27

Are the virtual events required?

The virtual lectures and information sessions are not required. However, we will be taking attendance and encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with faculty, staff, and current Scholars.

How many potential Scholars are invited to Scholar Finalists’ Week?

The number varies each year. This year we have invited approximately 100 Scholar Finalists.

How is the final round of interviews conducted?

Interviews for virtual participants will occur on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Interviews for on-campus participants will occur on Monday, March 25th and/or Tuesday, March 26th.

All finalists will participate in two group interviews. Members of the selection committee include faculty, current and alumni Scholars, and staff. They work in teams of three to five to conduct each group activity. The composition of the Finalist group you interview with will change for each activity. This is a great way to help you meet other future potential Scholars as well as meet a variety of faculty, current and alumni Scholars, and staff.

If I am interested in extra-curricular activities, how can I find out what Emory has to offer?

Most Scholars are involved in a wide variety of campus activities. You are encouraged to ask your virtual Scholar host and other current Scholars you meet about their favorite extracurricular activities or specific opportunities related to your interests.

If you hope to play a varsity sport and are not already in touch with the coach for that team, you can find a listing of coaches’ email addresses at www.emoryathletics.com. We encourage you to contact the relevant coach and ask if it might be possible to arrange a meeting with them or some current students on the team. If you are interested in club sports, you can see what Emory has to offer at recwell.emory.edu/programs/club-sports.

If you would like to be involved in the performing arts (dance, music, theatre), you can find out more at www.arts.emory.edu. Dance and Music faculty will be participating in the week’s events, so you will have a chance to meet them and ask questions.

For other activities, ask a Scholar how to find out about them, as they may know a student, faculty or staff member you can contact to learn more. You can also peruse Emory’s website, www.emory.edu, for more information. Talk to as many Scholars as you can and ask them about extracurricular opportunities!

If I’m not selected as a Scholar Finalist, are there other scholarships available?

While we’re not able to guarantee receipt, most finalists who are not selected to be part of the Emory College Scholars Program will be offered a Liberal Arts scholarship funding half-tuition during their time at Emory.

What should I bring to campus for Scholar Finalists’ Week? Is there a dress code?

A full packing list will be shared closer to the date of the program. Some of the program events will request business professional attire, so please prepare your wardrobe for both casual and professional events to the extent you are able.
