The piece outlines why officials in Brazil, contrary to their peers in other countries around the world, are welcoming migrants into the nation. Lesser is an expert on public health, ethnicity, immigration, and race, especially in Brazil. His newest book, <em>Living and Dying in S\u00e3o Paulo<\/em>, will be published with Duke University Press in 2024. Immigration rules are also far less strict than in the US.
