Learning Commons surveys yield positive results

Each semester, Woodruff Library Learning Commons and the Computing Center at Cox Hall—the two facilities that provide technological resources, collaborative spaces, and support services for Emory’s student community—conduct customer satisfaction surveys. The students are invited to tell us what they think and rate their satisfaction with our spaces, with the technology, and with the quality of the support they receive from staff.

Although we are pleased to learn that overall our students rate their experience highly, we are always looking for the ways to improve further. Two initiatives we’ve taken on this semester, reducing staff noise levels and increasing the cleanliness of our spaces, came directly from survey responses. Still other responses, such as the busyness of our spaces, we take as proof of the on-going success and popularity of services and spaces we support.

From these surveys, we’ve received many requests for power outlets at every table, more surfaces for laptop users, better furniture, and more color to improve the look and feel of our spaces. These requests help support and validate that the collaborative work of several LITS teams on the Next Generation Learning Commons project (see LITS Online News article and The Emory Wheel article) will do much to address the needs specifically expressed by our students.
