left\">We are\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;text-align: justify\">a team of exposure scientists and molecular epidemiologists dedicated to advancing the science of the human exposome. Led by Dr. Donghai Liang, our group aims to comprehensively characterize the <\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;text-align: justify\"><b>human exposome<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;text-align: justify\">, external and internal environmental exposures individuals experience across the life course, and uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying the complex health effects of environmental mixtures.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;text-align: justify\">Our current research focuses on ubiquitous environmental pollutants\u2014including air pollution, persistent organic pollutants, and ubiquitous environmental toxicants\u2014and their contributions to a wide range of health outcomes, from<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;text-align: justify\"><b> maternal and child health<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;text-align: justify\"> to<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;text-align: justify\"><b> cancer<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;text-align: justify\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;text-align: justify\"><b>Alzheimer\u2019s disease<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;text-align: justify\">. To investigate these links, we leverage advanced exposure assessment tools and <\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;text-align: justify\"><b>high-throughput omics<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit;text-align: justify\"> technologies, with particular emphasis on high-resolution metabolomics and multi-omics integration.<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1096\" data-end=\"1552\">Through a series of independent panel and cohort studies, we have demonstrated the power of untargeted and semi-targeted metabolomics to identify exposure biomarkers, internal dose indicators, and early biological responses. These studies have identified key metabolic pathways and signatures associated with traffic-related air pollution and persistent pollutants, providing critical insight into the biological underpinnings of exposure-related diseases.\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit\">More recently, our work has expanded to integrate multiple omics layers\u2014including the <\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit\"><b>epigenome,<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span style=\"font-style: inherit\">proteome,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit\">metabolome<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit\">, lipidome<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit\"><b>microbiome<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit;font-weight: inherit\">\u2014to holistically examine how exogenous exposures interact with endogenous biological systems.
