Assistant Professor Selected for Exclusive Project Pitch at 50th Toronto International Film Festival

Each autumn at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Sloan Science on Screen Programme selects four international filmmakers to pitch feature film projects that thematically involve science and technology. In fifteen minutes or less, the Sloan Science and Technology Project Pitch Participants present their projects in front of a live audience and panel of producers, sales agents, and decision-makers.  We are proud to announce that this year, Assistant Film and Media Professor, Tanju Ozdemir has been selected as a Participant. He will take the floor in Toronto to pitch his project, The Rings of Saturn.

Ozdemir’s film follows a Ada, pregnant Greek-American astrophysicist who finds herself pulled into two kinds of darkness: that of a black hole and of her mother’s dark past. While working on the first image of a black hole (M87), Ada investigates her mother’s origins in a Turkish village haunted by the Greek-Turkish population exchange.
