Literature Mixtapes
What Are Literature Mixtapes?

What Are Literature Mixtapes?

Thanks for coming to our listening party.

Literature mixtapes are more than a way for us to combine two different but exciting worlds, the world of music and the world of literature, into one. They are a way for us to bridge these worlds meaningfully, showing how the lyrics, rhythms, and affective stylings of the songs that we love can shed light on the inner (and outer) lives of characters in literature. They enrich narratives and add dimension to worlds that we might initially find remote or alienating.

They provides a means of exploring literature that is immersive, empathetic, and creative.

The literature mixtapes on these sites were created by students at Oxford College of Emory University in English 256 (Survey of English Literature) and English 312 (Shakespeare).

Please feel free to listen to the Spotify playlists and read the accompanying explanatory text; by doing so, you might be surprised at the new perspective you gain on some classic works. And, of course, you might just find some great new tunes.
