This is an interview with director Jordan Peele. In this video, he talks about the horror theme in Nope. In the film, he states that he knows the movie is a horror film and that it might be hard for some people to watch. However, he tries to acknowledge this in his films so that the movie can be enjoyed by many, even people who are not fans of the horror genre. More so, because horror is most recognizable by the emotional effect it tries to arouse, he emphasizes the emotions within the characters reacting to the terror and shocking events throughout the film. Jordan Peele then says “There’s just certain things that are just going to make us go nope. Done. Out. I’m gone”. This is meant for us to relate to the character’s emotions which makes it easier for us to watch.

The film was made to feel like it was an original piece of content. The movies that shouldn’t have been made. It touches on race and how movies made by people of color with a big budget are not supposed to be made.

Furthermore, this film touches on childhood fears. Peele elaborates on one of the goals of his film. He wants the audience to feel as if they were near a UFO because it’s a fear and a wonder everyone had as a kid. The sense of the unknown creates a sense of panic and alertness.
