I came across this article from Collider which discusses the stunt work in RRR. This article resonated with me, because what struck me the most about RRR was its intense and suspenseful action sequences. The article mainly uses the scene where Raju fights the tiger to explain more about the stunts throughout the film. From my perspective as a viewer, I was so caught up in this action that I didn’t get the chance to reflect upon how much work and detail actually goes into a scene like this. There is a whole stunt team that has to work on each action scene to make sure that it is perfectly executed, and I read another article for more detail about this particular scene. I learned there were concept artists to help visualize how the CGI animals would move. In order for the actors to visualize the animals, they used LED strips where the animals would be.
This article also brings up the idea that there is no proper category for stunts in the Oscars. The author stresses that stunts are a critical part of a film, and should be recognized in similar ways to cinematography and editing. Also, because action movies have become so popular, it would make sense for a stunt category to be included because they are a crucial part of each action movie. I had never thought about this before, but after watching RRR, I now realize how much critical thinking and attention to detail goes into each stunt.
