One of my favorite Jordan Peele movies has always been “Get Out”. I always love how there is hidden meaning in almost every Jordan Peele movie, including “Get Out”. “Get Out” isn’t just your regular scary movie; it’s a tale that dives deep into how people treat each other based on their race. The way it ends leaves you thinking about a place called the “Sunken Place” and what it really means in the story. The Sunken Place isn’t just a spooky setting in the film—it stands for how some folks, especially Black individuals, are silenced and pushed aside in society.
The story revolves around Chris, who visits his girlfriend’s family and things take a twisted turn. He finds out they’re trapping Black people, treating them like objects rather than real people. Toward the end, when Chris escapes but fears the police might blame him for everything, it’s a tense moment. It shows the scary reality of how Black people often feel when they interact with the police. The movie’s director, Jordan Peele, changed the ending a bit to give some hope when a friend steps in to save Chris.
“Get Out” is more than just a movie; it’s a mirror reflecting the racism that still exists today. The Sunken Place, the unfair treatment of Black people, and the fear of being treated badly by the police—all these things make us think about the bigger issues around race. The movie reminds us that even though things have improved in some ways, there’s still a lot more to do to make things fair for everyone. It’s a movie that sparks conversations about how we treat others because of their race and makes us think about what true equality really means.
