I was debating for a while what I would suggest for this searcher post. I have recently watched several shows which I would happily recommend. If you enjoy Greek Mythology, Kaos, on Netflix is an amazing twist on the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. Jeff Goldblum plays a hilarious Zeus and the dedication to creating a modern mythological world is amazing. If you enjoy heartwarming stories, A Man on the Inside, again on Netflix, is a hilarious show where Ted Danson goes undercover in a retirement home. His character is so lovable and I finished the show in one day.
Both of those shows are great, however, what I really want to promote is The Midnight Gospel. Also on Netflix, this show is 8 episodes animated from the podcast “Duncan Trussel Family Hour.” It is a almost like a psychedelic trip while watching it (and I’ll admit a little weird/raunchy), but the animations are beautifully created. In the podcast, Duncan Trussel interviews people spanning from yogis, neuroscientists, philosophers, comedians, and more and discusses questions about life, death, spirituality, and consciousness. In the show, the main character, Clancy (Duncan Trussel), owns an inter-dimensional space podcast and travels to different planets every episode to interview a new ‘space being’ (AKA his podcast guest of the week).
If you like cool visuals and questions that make you rethink your existence this show is definitely for you. Some of my favorite episodes are “3: Hunters Without a Home” where Clancy interviews a student of ceremonial magic, “5: Annihilation of Joy” which ponders death and existential crises, “6: Vulture With Honor” where meditation is discussed, and “7: Turtles of the Eclipse” when Clancy speaks with the embodiment of death about what it really is. Every episode is honestly amazing in its own way, and, if you enjoy the show, I would definitely recommend checking out the podcast.
