Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI)
The Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) is an independent, non-governmental, non-partisan and not for profit human rights organisation. Its vision is to build a strong, democratic and human rights culture as a foundation for peace, stability, democracy and sustainable development.
Considering Uganda’s current constraints to democratic development and full enjoyment of fundamental human rights as enshrined in the 1995 Ugandan Constitution, and other internationally recognised human rights standards highlighted above, FHRI and the wider civil society play a strong advocacy role in demanding implementation of the state’s obligations thereby creating a policy framework for peace and development. FHRI’s current Three Year Programme (2003 – 2005) is divided into two main areas of Advocacy and Education that comprises the Research, Monitoring and Documentation; Access to Justice; Technical and Advisory Services; Police and Prison Reform; Publications; Radio Talk Shows and the Human Rights and Democracy Resource Centre projects.
