We are undergraduate students at Emory University interested in the multilingualism of the greater Atlanta area. As part of a one-credit Linguistics class during spring semester 2022 and 2023 under the direction of Hiram Maxim we conducted small-scale fact-finding projects on multilingualism in the city’s linguistic landscape. These initial projects are seen as the first steps toward documenting more closely Atlanta’s vibrant linguistic landscape, and it is hoped that the site will be updated regularly with further projects exploring the semiotic practices in public spaces of greater Atlanta.
We want to credit the Languages Around Metro Portland (LAMP) project as an important inspiration for our work.
