Lindsay Paroczai (WDG Web Specialist) recently vacationed in Arizona at the USA Volleyball BB Adult National Championship Tournament.  Her team won the tournament – undefeated – and she picked up All-Tournament honors along the way.

This is the second time in three years that Lindsay’s team, the Muffin Tops (you will need to scroll to the bottom), has won nationals, as well as the second time in three years that she has taken home All-Tournament honors.

In addition to the national championship, Lindsay and her doubles partner, Amanda Youell, finished second in an Angry Dragon Volleyball (ADV) tournament, held this year in Emerson, GA. The tournament, called the Dragon Slayer, was held in June, with over 500 participants and a $3000 cash prize awarded to the top divisions. This particular tournament was a grass doubles tournament, though technically this time grass is actually AstroTurf.

Making these accomplishments more impressive is that Lindsay recently recovered from a devastating knee injury.

In December of 2012, Lindsay tore her MPFL, which is the ligament that keeps one’s knee from dislocating. She had the repair surgery in January of 2013. When she awoke from surgery, Emory doctors told Lindsay the damage to her knee was more extensive than they originally thought, and instead of the predicted 4-6 month recovery time, it would actually be 6-8 months, which ruled out all of outdoor season for that year – a really difficult thing for her to hear.

The week of surgery, Lindsay started working with Chip at Emory Phyiscal Therapy. She wasn’t allowed to bend her leg for two months, which made everyday activities that much harder. Getting a single rotation on the stationary bike was a battle lasting several months. After a lot of hard work and many tears, Lindsay was cleared to play in July – a mere 5 months after surgery. “Having the Emory resources that were right next door to work were pretty much a godsend,” said Lindsay.
