As a result of collaboration among Student Digital Life, Classroom Technology Services, Library Facilities, and Campus Services Interior Design teams, a former conference room located on the second floor of Woodruff Library has been converted into a space that provides highly sought-after services for Emory students.
The mismatched, outdated furniture and underused SMART board in the room gave way to the latest A/V technology, modern, reconfigurable furniture, and efficient lighting, making it possible to support presentation practice and video/audio conferencing in a variety of settings.
The new space opened in the Fall 2014 as a part of the Next Generation Learning Commons and quickly gained popularity with Emory students and faculty. They used the space for practicing presentations while watching and recording a video feed for later review and analysis, as well as for collaborative engagement with peers and colleagues from across the globe.

In the short period since its opening, the space facilitated numerous presentation practice and recording activities for the classes taught at Emory, for a lecture at the 2014 Atlanta Undergraduate Conference on Health and Society, for TEDxEmory Student Speaker Competition, for the Happiness Bootcamp, and a Chalk Talk recording for SIRE.  Its conferencing capabilities supported video job interviews via Skype and BlueJeans, a GMSC client meeting, and ongoing Emory students’ participation in a UGA Math course via Vidyo.
One can learn more about the technology in the space through the Student Digital Life website and submit a reservation request for presentation practice and recording or for video/audio conferencing via our Student Digital Life Resource Scheduler.
