Elaina Norlin is the new professional development / DEI coordinator (ASERL). Prior to this position, she spent nine years as the executive director of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. “I have been a librarian for 100 years…seriously, I have been a librarian a long time,” says Elaina. Some of her other jobs include academic tenure at the University of Arizona Library, senior program officer at IMLS and head of membership and outreach at OCLC.
Born and raised in Chicago, Elaina has a bachelor’s degree in communications, with an emphasis on marketing, and an MLIS from the University of Illinois. She also holds a certification in organizational development.
For fun, Elaina is a dancer, traveler and long-distance walker. She has traveled to Australia five times and was a keynote presenter there three times.
“I’m working remotely (from Miami, FL), which takes time to get used to not seeing people every day,” says Elaina, “but so far so good! I’m looking forward to meeting everyone in June.”
