This certificate, which stands for the distant contact century club, is awarded to operators who have confirmed contacts with over 100 geographic entities (or countries)\u00a0around the world. \u00a0There are currently 340 accepted DXCC entities which are composed of countries and geographically separate places (for example: Hawaii and Alaska are each an entity).<\/p>\n<p>Awarded by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Radio_Relay_League\" target=\"_blank\">American Radio Relay League(wikipedia)<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arrl.org\/\">ARRL Web Site<\/a>), this certificate is one of many that radio enthusiasts can earn. Tom already has DXCC certificates for Mixed (combination) and Phone (Voice). \u00a0There are four types of DXCC available. \u00a0The types are Digital, CW(Morse Code) , Phone (Voice), and Mixed (any combination of the other three). \u00a0After getting the certificates they can be upgraded with endorsement stickers for various achievements.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5730\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5730\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/emoryit\/files\/2014\/01\/armour-radio2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5730\" alt=\"Photo of a ham radio operator's desktop with their equipment\" src=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/emoryit\/files\/2014\/01\/armour-radio2.png\" width=\"360\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/lits-sandbox\/files\/2014\/01\/armour-radio2.png 600w, https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/lits-sandbox\/files\/2014\/01\/armour-radio2-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5730\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tom&#8217;s radio setup at home.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All of Tom\u2019s contacts were digitally signed and confirmed with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Logbook_of_The_World\" target=\"_blank\">Logbook of the World<\/a>\u00a0tracking system managed by the ARRL.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, 2014 marks the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arrl.org\/centennial\">one hundredth anniversary of the creation of the ARRL<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div>Tom&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wireless.fcc.gov\/services\/index.htm?job=service_home&amp;id=amateur\">FCC<\/a>\u00a0Licensed call sign\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wireless2.fcc.gov\/UlsApp\/UlsSearch\/license.jsp?licKey=3446815\">WA4TA<\/a>\u00a0is an Amateur Extra class license.\u00a0This is the highest level amateur license offered by the FCC.<\/div>\n<p>Tom says his next goal will probably be \u201cWorked All States,\u201d which is an award for contacting individual amateur radio stations in each US state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tom Armour\u00a0(UTS) recently received the\u00a0DXCC Certificate\u00a0for ham radio operation.
