Not pictured: Bruce Anderson, Russ Havard, and Mark Parten.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In early July, after a long \u201cburn-in period,\u201d Phase III of the Emory Shared Data (ESD) project was closed. ESD is the person registry that supports the Emory identity management system.<\/p>\n<p>The very first record entered into ESD was on May 11, 1992. &#8220;After 22 years, it was time to bring the service into LITS&#8217; modern infrastructure,&#8221; said technical lead <strong>Elizabeth Bell<\/strong>. The ESD project was\u00a0a large continuous service improvement effort that included software and hardware upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>The three-year project included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Validation of the data requirements and associated business rules<\/li>\n<li>Database cleanup and removal of deprecated objects<\/li>\n<li>Fine tuning of processes leading to increased efficency<\/li>\n<li>Adoption of Oracle Transparent Data Encryption to ensure all sensitive data is encrypted<\/li>\n<li>Migration from DataStage version 7.5.3 to the re-architected IBM InfoSphere Information Server version 9.1.2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overall, there was a processing improvement of approximately 30%. The team looks forward to continued service improvement efforts while maintaining high operational standards.<\/p>\n<p>The project was completed approximately 39% under budget.<\/p>\n<p><strong>John Ellis<\/strong>, formerly Director of Integration, was the project sponsor. The Identity Management Team members were:\u00a0 <strong>Anne Marie Alexander<\/strong>, Sr. manager along with <strong>Elizabeth Bell<\/strong> (technical lead, ESD Group), <strong>Erika Buchholz\u00a0<\/strong>(ESD Group), and <strong>Russ Havard<\/strong> (ESD Group), <strong>Mark Parten<\/strong> (Oracle DBA) and <strong>Bruce Anderson<\/strong> (Systems).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scott Swann<\/strong> was the PMO project manager for Phases I and II.\u00a0 <strong>Graydon Kirk<\/strong> was the PMO project manager for Phase III.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In early July, after a long \u201cburn-in period,\u201d Phase III of the Emory Shared Data (ESD) project was closed.
