What Are You Waiting For?

Blurred photo of socks

Watch out for flying socks!!

What are you waiting for? There has never been a better time to go out and do something new. Spring is in the air. The directors have a well-defined list of goals and there are meaty, interesting, complicated  projects in each of those areas. I am sure there is something new that anybody can contribute, either in the direct pursuit of one of those director goals or by enhancing one of the existing efforts.

All of our managers are busy training throughout the year. Due to our aggressive manager training schedule,  your manager will likely need to:

  1. Delegate something to you that you might have never worked on before. Therefore, if you have desire for growth and visibility, offer your manager the willingness to participate.
  2. Try new things as a result of the training. Now is the time to volunteer to be a part of new things in your department. Perhaps you can help shape the future direction for your team in ways that can be advantageous to you.

We’ve got money for most of the extra credit projects, but most of those projects are behind schedule. I am looking for people who are willing to step up and show me that they were serious about really doing the extra credit. We also have unused training dollars at the end of every year so why not pick out some training that is highly attractive to you and go after it.

How many of you are following up on the article about how many things a top 20 university has to offer? Have you been to a class or a poetry reading? Been to a lecture or a concert? We just completed Emory’s first Coursera course; how many of you were enrolled and are you enrolled in another course? If not, you are missing part of what your work life could be about.

At the end of this month, we should have the selection of our new monitoring tools, so the second half of the year is going to be full of opportunities for you to bring new availability, capacity, and performance monitoring to bear inside your area.

I dare you to knock my socks off!
