Todd’s Classic Cars

Todd Sirmans (R-WIT) is the High Performance Computing (HPC) Systems lead during the day at Emory. But at night and on the weekends, his passion is restoring and owning classic 70’s American muscle cars!

An enthusiast for over 28 years, Todd first realized he was a car guy when he got his very first car, a 1969 Chevelle which he loved. After high school he bought a 1970 Buick GS 455. His dad owned a 1971 Cutlass Supreme convertible that he had restored. Todd and his dad restored a 1970 Chevelle together, which fully cemented his love for cars of that era. Interestingly, Bill Szabrak (PMO) also has a 1971 Cutlass Supreme and frequently swaps information with Todd.

All of Todd’s cars are 70’s muscle cars and he loves that period of automobile manufacturing. His dream is to get an old Bel Air. Todd likes to attend cruises (where a bunch of people drive from one place to another) and car shows. He’s a member of the Peach State Chevelles Club and his dad was a member of the Buick GS Club of America.

Ironically, despite his collection of muscle cars, Todd drives a street-legal golf cart to work each day! The all-electric electric Gem Car, similar to those used by Emory, is his commuter vehicle in good weather. It has a top speed of 25 mph and perfectly fits his daily 6-mile commute. “I like not having to pay for gas when I go to work,” quips Todd.

The car on the right is a Buick Skylark GS 455, not a Chevelle.

Why am I not surprised about the golf cart?! Glad to see he’s kept up with classic muscle cars. I remember his blue Chevelle well from our high school days. He’s a big reason why I love classic cars. Thankfully, my husband loves them too.
