Nicole McFarland (Integration, ITSMO) recently became a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the PMP credential is the most important industry-recognized certification for project managers.

To apply for the eligibility of the PMP certification, candidates must complete an application providing evidence of:

  • A four year degree and 4,500 project hours (or a secondary degree with 7,500 project hours)
  • 35 hours of project management education

Once the application is approved, the candidate must pass a rigorous 200 question, proctored exam in 4-hours.

To prepare for the exam, Nicole attended a 5-day exam-prep boot camp, reviewed the course content and the PMBOK® 5th Edition guide documenting 60 pages of study notes in an additional 40+ hours of study, and practiced daily brain dumps of the 47 process areas and required formulas.

“This was a long-time desired qualification and I’m ecstatic to have achieved this goal,” said Nicole. “I have delivered ITIL training for years to certified PMPs and we often discuss how these best practice frameworks can work together. Now with additional knowledge and certification I feel better equipped to participate and lead these discussions and resulting service improvement plans and projects.”

To celebrate this achievement and to ring in the New Year, Nicole met up with a group of college friends in San Francisco. The long weekend included a comedy show and dinner in Oakland, wine in Sonoma and Napa, dancing with an 80’s cover band, and lots of walking and window shopping around town.

Please join us in congratulating Nicole on this achievement!
