Emory’s ongoing partnership with the Decatur Book Festival is made possible through the collaboration of many individuals and departments across the campus, including the Woodruff Library and MARBL.
Dates for the 9th annual AJC Decatur Book Festival are Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31, plus the keynote event at the Schwartz Center on Friday, Aug. 29, which features Joyce Carol Oates, one of America’s great literary icons. She will be joined onstage by her biographer and Atlanta resident, Dr. Greg Johnson. The event will mark the launch of her new short story collection, Lovely, Dark, Deep: Stories.

Emory Libraries’ Presence at the Festival
The libraries will help anchor the Emory tent where we will be spotlighting services provided by our libraries, current and upcoming exhibitions, literary programs and events, author talks, and other public programs. This is an excellent opportunity for us to share our assets with a community-wide audience — folks who love learning about literature, art, culture, and more.
The Center for Faculty Development and Excellence (CFDE) and the Emory Alumni Association will be hosting faculty and alumni book signings in the tent. Barnes and Noble will sell books by Emory faculty and alumni authors, and the Carlos Museum will sell items from their bookstore.
It’s a fun, community experience.
The festival runs Saturday from 10 am to 6pm and Sunday from noon to 6pm. We are looking for volunteers who can donate at least two hours of time or more on Saturday or Sunday – or both days.
At the festival, our volunteers will host tables in Emory’s big tent and play an active role in promoting the university and its libraries and capturing names with contact information from our visitors. Volunteers will encourage people to pick up informational material and to attend author readings (including Emory faculty authors) at various venues throughout the festival and at the Emory Stage.
