On Thursday, October 9, the Manuscript, Archives & Rare Book Library (MARBL) launched a new Special Collections Request System.

This system allows MARBL users to register and request materials online. By registering with the system, users are able to request materials directly from the Emory University Libraries’ catalog and finding aids database, view their patron history, and request and pay for photo duplication services.

The system is powered by Aeon, a product of Atlas Systems, and created specifically to improve the management of circulation services in archives and special collections libraries. Academic institutions all over the country have implemented the system, including many of Emory’s peers.

By implementing Aeon, MARBL is moving many of its day-to-day circulation processes online, creating greater efficiency, expanded patron access and improved reporting capabilities.

At Emory University’s MARBL, students, faculty, scholars and community members can examine rare books, documents and photographs that reveal the history behind some of the world’s most interesting figures and organizations. MARBL’s major collecting areas are African American History and Culture; Literature and Poetry; Modern Politics; Southern History; Rare Books; and Emory University History.
