Kim Braxton

Kim Braxton is the new director of academic technology services (ATS) for Emory University’s Library and Information Technology Services (LITS).

In this position, Braxton will advance the University’s academic technology program, in collaboration with faculty, students, and library and information technology professionals. She also will develop and implement programs to enhance education and engagement through the innovative and effective use of technology and new media in teaching and learning.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Kim over the past year, and she is extremely knowledgeable and experienced with academic technology services as they have evolved here at Emory,” says University Librarian Yolanda Cooper. “She’s an excellent advocate for her team, and she is excited about the future that new forms of technology offer in higher education.

“The platform for academic technology is broad, and there are many intersections with libraries. We have an excellent opportunity due to the library/ATS structure to develop innovative and valuable services and tools for our students and faculty. I have no doubt that Kim is the best possible candidate to take advantage of this alignment and move ATS forward to the best possible outcome.”

Braxton, who began her new position Jan. 5, has been the manager of LITS faculty technology services for more than a year, focusing extensively on restructuring Emory’s Blackboard service, as well as managing the University’s Coursera initiative. She previously served for six years as manager of LITS student services, designing and supporting collaborative learning spaces like the Computing Center at Cox Hall. She will now oversee both departments as part of Academic Technology Services within the library. She has worked at Emory since 1998 (with the exception of one year at Agnes Scott College) and has 20 years of instructional technology experience.
