“Christopher has been a tremendous asset to the Libraries since his arrival.” – Yolanda Cooper, University Librarian

Christopher Spalding has been promoted to the Director of Libraries Core Systems. According to University Librarian Yolanda Cooper, “Christopher has been a tremendous asset to the Libraries since his arrival and is most deserving of this promotion. In his short tenure he has made significant contributions to a broad number of areas, projects, and initiatives, and I have no doubt he will be a key player in many more to come.”

Christopher had been manager of library core services for 17 months. Before he began his Emory work, Christopher spent a year with Novo Nordisk in Copenhagen as a senior information scientist and eight years with the Ex Libris Group in various roles from support librarian to being named the senior solutions architect.

After growing up in Boston and Cape Cod, Christopher attended Boston University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history of religions. He went on to the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom where he received a master’s degree in history of religions, with a focus on the Old Testament. Christopher’s interest in library systems began when he worked for Ask Jeeves (now Ask.com) and helped build the world history portion of their database.

Christopher loves spending time with his two young kids (ages five and one). He also harbors interests in sailing and old Vespas (classic Italian motor scooters).

“I’m excited about the work my team is doing now,” said Christopher. “We’ve accomplished a lot in the last year and we’ve got a lot more to do.”
