Megan Slemons earned a master’s degree in library science from UNC.

Megan Slemons is the new GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Librarian in the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship. In this role she works with scholars to incorporate geospatial technologies into their research, such as visualizing data on a map or performing spatial analysis. She also works to develop and provide access to the library’s geospatial data collections.

Megan came to Emory in 2013 as a Research Library Fellow, after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with her master’s degree in library science. While at UNC, Megan worked in the GIS and data services in their library. She also attained a double major in Economics and English from Furman University. Megan grew up in Kennesaw and attended Lassiter HS.

Interestingly, Megan did not have a library career in mind until she became a student worker in the acquisitions department at Furman and loved the experience.

“I am excited to be staying at Emory,” said Megan. “The ECDS is working on a lot of new and exciting things, and I am looking forward to helping the Center continue to grow.”
