Sandra Jefferson was beloved by everyone who knew her.

This note is to let you know that library retiree, Sandra Jefferson, passed away Friday, July 24. Sandra began her Emory career at the Carlos Museum as a security officer in 1995. She transferred to the Woodruff Library security team in 1996, and in 1999 she was promoted to Security Specialist.
Sandra knew everyone and was a cornerstone of the security team, especially while she filled in for Terence during two long military duty leaves. Sandra left in 2011 due to health reasons but was able to come back for a farewell celebration in Feb. 2012.

It was decided to forego a wake the day before the funeral. Funeral services (celebration of life) will be held 12 noon on Friday, July 31 at First Iconium Baptist Church (542 Moreland Avenue SE, Atlanta, GA 30316). The repast to immediately follow in the church gymnasium.

There will be a viewing at Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral Home (4347 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur, GA 30334) on Saturday, August 1st from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM before being cremated. The family will not be present during the viewing hours on Saturday.
“Sandra was the ultimate professional in performing her duties,” said Terrence Jefferson. “She went beyond the call of duty to assist students, faculty and staff in resolving their issue. She was my right hand, the cornerstone of the security team, the mother hen …keeping us all in order. Sandra will be remembered for her caring nature, love of people and sense of fairness. She will be truly missed.”
Charles Forrest also shared these anecdotes: “Sandra Jefferson was a dedicated and committed long-time member and later assistant team leader of the Library Security Team. Her commitment to effective operations was balanced by personal warmth and human-hearted concern for students.”
Added Charles, “I remember being in the Security Office one time at the end of the semester, and remarking on the overflowing lost and found boxes and shelves, full of sweaters, jackets, books, water bottles, flash drives and other miscellaneous items. ‘This time of year, they lose everything,’ Sandra observed, ‘including their minds!’ I appreciated her hard work and uncomplaining willingness to step up and do what was required for the good of the team; I miss her warmth and good humor.”
