The exhibit drew over 3,500 visitors in less than a week.

A traveling version of the exhibit, “Bobby Jones: The Game of Life” was on display July 12-July 19 in St Andrews, Scotland at The Open Championship golf tournament. The exhibit, housed in the massive “spectator village” adjacent to the historic Old Course at St Andrews golf course, drew over 3,500 visitors in less than a week.

Bobby Jones, the famous golfer, lawyer, and Atlanta businessman, had a special, lifelong relationship with St Andrews and its people, which made the return a fitting and historic experience. A condensed version of the exhibit currently on display in the Schatten Gallery, the traveling exhibit featured artifacts and documents from MARBL collections that had to do with Jones’ life, his accomplishments, his time at Emory as a law student, and his ongoing legacy.

The exhibit was co-sponsored by the Laney Graduate School, and throughout the week MARBL staff were assisted at the exhibit by the current Bobby Jones scholars from Emory who are completing their year of study at the University of St Andrews. Full coverage of the exhibit was done on a Tumblr blog set up for the trip, which you can find at

You can also find coverage of the exhibit on the @EmoryMARBL Twitter account, and on social media by searching #EmoryAtTheOpen.

The traveling exhibit was a great success, and it was our honor to return at least part of Bobby Jones’ legacy to St Andrews.
