“Being able to train someone in virtual reality then have them apply that training directly to the real world is the holy grail requirement of any virtual reality apps you see nowadays,” said Arya Basu.

Aryabrata (Arya) Basu joins ECDS to primarily write simulations and create visualizations for academic content. A computer science PhD candidate from the University of Georgia, Arya spent most of his graduate work doing computer graphics and real-time rendering of computer graphics.

As part of his graduate assistantship at UGA, Arya created content for exams, assignments, and virtual labs for their College of Veterinary Medicine. He also worked at UGA as a teaching assistant and later as an app developer for the College of Engineering.

Arya is an expert in creating virtual experiences. As an example, at UGA he helped create a virtual lab to train students how to handle chemicals and waste material before actually entering the lab.

“Being able to train someone in virtual reality then have them apply that training directly to the real world is the holy grail requirement of any virtual reality apps you see nowadays,” said Arya.

Originally from Kolkata, India, Arya has a bachelor of science in computer science from West Bengal University of Technology.

For fun, Arya likes to solve puzzles, with a special interest in mazes, which are the basis for the experiments in his thesis on the feasibility of the mobile-immersive experience.
