The CCR Exhibition Team recently installed a version of the Beats exhibition at Oxford. The team worked with Elliot Kuecker, Ellen Neufeld, and Kitty McNeil to mount a compelling exhibit in the Oxford College Library.

“We are excited about the opportunity to bring the world of the Beats to our patrons,” said Elliot. “It’s always good to collaborate across the various libraries at Emory.” This exhibit is on display in the Fran Elizer exhibit area.

The following is an excerpt from a press release regarding the exhibit:

The years following World War II saw a renewed period of social, political, and artistic activism in the United States. “The Beat Generation & the Counterculture, 1940–1975” reconsiders postwar literature and the ways it mirrored, predicted, and remade the culture around it, with special focus on the influential group known as “the Beats.”

The exhibition is drawn from the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, & Rare Book Library’s collections, especially the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library. This exhibition features highlights of the Beats exhibition in the Schatten gallery at Emory University’s Woodruff Library. On view are manuscripts, books, correspondence, and other memorabilia, including Jack Kerouac’s paint box.
