Are you interested in helping Emory Libraries develop more programming and training around issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice?

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEI) is looking for new members. DEI serves all libraries and departments across LITS to provide guidance and leadership related to social justice through professional development and training opportunities for internal LITS staff, as well as programming, education, and maintaining welcoming atmospheres for users.

Last year, the Diversity & Inclusion Working Group conducted research about how diversity is addressed at Emory and at our peer institutions and produced a set of recommendations for Emory Libraries. Now, as a cabinet-sponsored committee, they are implementing those recommendations, such as:

• Writing a diversity statement for Emory Libraries
• Organizing training and education opportunities for Emory Libraries staff to improve awareness and skills related to DEI issues
• Creating internal library and public facing guides to resources related to DEI

There are many more things on their “to do” list. They are seeking new members who represent not only various departments and roles within Emory Libraries, but also various life experiences and perspectives.

DEI has a monthly meeting every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 11 am, but even if you can’t make it to those meetings there are still many ways to be involved. This is a very active committee with opportunities to participate in many ways including outreach, strategizing, writing, assessment activities, etc.
