For the past two years, Ramya Bommareddy (manager, database administration) has been serving on the Software Engineering committee for Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC). She was also session chair last year. Recently she was recognized by the organization for her contributions.

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC) is a series of conferences designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. It is the world’s largest gathering of women in computing. The celebration results in collaborative proposals, networking and mentoring for attendees.

The celebration, named after computer scientist and Admiral Grace Hopper, is organized by the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology and the Association for Computing Machinery. AnitaB.org works with technologists in more than 80 countries, and partners with academic institutions and Fortune 500 companies worldwide. AnitaB.org helps women make significant contributions to technical fields. Every year, women technologists and the best minds in computing convene to highlight the contributions of women to computing.

“We are proud of Ramya for volunteering and carrying the GHC message forward,” said her director Sriram Chari.

The committee on which Ramya served would review proposals for presentations, workshops and panels, and provide feedback on which ones should be a part of the conference. Ramya has even served as a mentor for some of the attendees. “GHC enables me to increase knowledge of current trends in technology, and connect with current and future technologists” said Ramya.
