“I expect to challenge myself and grow as an informationist.” – Emily Lawson

Emily Lawson is the new clinical informationist and coordinator of user outreach in the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library. Before taking this position, Emily was across the street at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where she worked for 14 years as a medical librarian. She also spent three years as a contractor for the CDC. Her first job, upon moving to Atlanta in 1999, was as a circulation assistant at Emory’s theology library.

Raised in Richmond, VA, Emily earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, and her MSLIS from Drexel University. She also carries her AHIP (Academy of Health Information Professionals) certification through the Medical Library Association (MLA).

Emily loves to travel, both domestically and internationally, with her favorite location thus far being Japan. She is also a former roller derby player, having been a blocker for the Toxic Shocks of the Atlanta Rollergirls.

“I was lucky to have already developed good relationships with many of the librarians here by working together through our professional associations,” says Emily about her colleagues in WHSCL. “There are many familiar faces that I hold in high esteem. In this role, I expect to challenge myself and grow as an informationist, while also finding ways to promote and increase awareness about the wonderful resources and services provided by the WHSCL.”
