“What I like about Emory is the opportunity to be on the cutting edge of this field and trying new things.” – Sofia Slutskaya

Sofia Slutskaya (pronounced SLOOT-ska-ya) is the new head of resource description in Emory Libraries. Before coming to Emory, she spent several years doing the same work for the Georgia Tech Library. She also served as a librarian at Georgia Perimeter College (now Georgia State) as well as in Russia.

Born in Krasnodar, Russia (near the Black Sea coast), Sofia earned her master of information and library science degree at the University of Tennessee, as well as PhD and undergraduate degrees in library science from the Moscow State University of Culture.

Sofia came to the US on a Fulbright scholarship and met her future husband while studying in Knoxville. She returned to Russia when her studies were complete and eventually moved back to the US to get married. When she’s not working, she loves to read Russian mystery novels.

“Cataloguing has become a very exciting field because of technology improvements that have changed the way we do things,” says Sofia. “What I like about Emory is the opportunity to be on the cutting edge of this field and trying new things. Plus, it is a beautiful campus.”
