5th Annual Women of Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to be held next week

Did you know that only about 18 percent of biographies on Wikipedia are about women?

Women of Wikipedia, the 5th annual Emory Libraries editathon dedicated to improving Wikipedia articles about notable women, will be held on Tuesday, February 25 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm in Woodruff Library 215. In honor of Social Justice Day, participants will learn how to edit the content of Wikipedia articles related to women (including trans and nonbinary) who have made significant contributions to their field.

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend and make a positive difference in how we talk and write about women on the web. No experience required—we’ll teach you all that you need to know to participate. FOOD WILL BE SERVED!

You can read our blog post for more details about what a Wikipedia editathon entails and how to participate. If you’re ready to sign up, please RSVP here and then join the editing dashboard. Feel free to share this email with anyone you think may be interested. This is a public event, so invite your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors!

This event is made possible with support from the Wikimedia Foundation—Wikipedia’s parent organization—and Art+Feminism, a global campaign that advocates for improving articles about women and aims to encourage more women to become Wikipedia editors.

E-mail Jenn Sutcliffe (jennifer [dot] sutcliffe [at] emory [dot] edu) with any questions. We hope to see you there!
