Carol Beck, Associate Director for Communications, Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics at Emory University

Last Thursday afternoon, your LITS Wellness Committee hosted a webinar by Carol Beck from the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics here at Emory on Resilience Through Compassion. The webinar dealt with how contemplative practice can help to modify our attitudes and activities to sustain personal resilience. As we deal with the stress of the current pandemic, we may find ourselves ruminating or reacting in unhelpful ways. Having a better understanding of how and why we get “triggered,” combined with straightforward meditation practices can help us increase the inner calm that will support us in times of stress, uncertainty and anxiety.

We had a great turn out of over 90 people for the event, but there were some who indicated that due to meetings they couldn’t make it. For those of you who couldn’t make it or for those who wanted to listen to it again, we have the recording and slides that Carol used for her presentation. Carol has asked that we don’t reproduce her presentation or slides publicly, i.e. via Facebook or other social media.
