Save the Date: Compassion and Mindfulness Meditation led by Prof. Bobbi Patterson

The LITS Wellness Committee is pleased to announce that Prof. Bobbi Patterson, Professor of Pedagogy in the Department of Religion, will lead a guided meditation session for LITS staff on Friday, October 13 from 12:00-1:20pm, in the Jones Room. This session is for anyone interested in practicing mindfulness and managing stress, both at work and beyond.

The session will be based on Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT), a program developed by Emory psychiatrist Charles Raison and Prof. of Buddhist Studies Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi, and which the Emory-Tibet Partnership’s website describes as “a contemporary and secular method” that fosters a sense of interconnectedness and “compassion through a process that begins with the stabilization of attention and awareness of mental activity.” It aims not only to help people manage stress, but also to develop their emotional intelligence.

More information about CBCT can be found in this 2011 talk given by Charles Raison at TEDxAtlanta.

We hope you will join us!
