Recovery after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Surgery

We are actively studying movement patterns during the recovery process and the reason for persistent quadriceps weakness

It is common for patients to unconsciously favor the surgical leg when walking, jumping and landing after anterior cruciate ligament surgery. We use 3D motion capture technology to identify movement compensations and performance during sport maneuvers.

Adequate strength of the quadriceps muscles is important for sport performance and movement quality. Unfortunately, weakness of the quadriceps muscles is a common and persistent problem after surgery without a clear understanding of why. Work toward identifying the cause of persistent weakness is ongoing.
