{"id":27,"date":"2016-11-29T07:03:23","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T07:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/powerofblackselflove\/?page_id=27"},"modified":"2016-12-14T17:31:23","modified_gmt":"2016-12-14T17:31:23","slug":"shameya","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/powerofblackselflove\/shameya\/","title":{"rendered":"Shameya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Black Self-Love and Affirmation through Music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span class=\"author-224028363\">Self-love has become a mantra during this current sociopolitical climate, <\/span><span class=\"author-224028363 font-color-000000 font-size-medium\">encouraged<\/span><span class=\"author-224028363\"> by jubilant exclamations of Black Girl Magic and the defiant announcements of unapologetic blackness. While these new tag-lines can be found all over the internet, clothing, and television, music shows us that it has always been a vessel for affirmation. Much like black culture has shifted from subversive to in-your-face, <\/span><span class=\"author-224028363 font-color-000000 font-size-medium\">black affirmation in music<\/span><span class=\"author-224028363\"> has <\/span><span class=\"author-224028363 font-color-000000 font-size-medium\">done the same<\/span><span class=\"author-224028363\">. By focusing on the music during three sociopolitical movements in black American history, I hope to analyze elements of self-love and affirmation as well as the differences in which they are
