The Emory Transplant Center is pleased to announce the return of our popular summer transplant internship in 2026. This internship is a phenomenal opportunity for pre-med college students to gain exposure to the fascinating field of organ transplantation. The program offers 8-10 undergraduate students the opportunity to shadow transplant surgeons, nephrologists, and hepatologists as they care for patients with end-stage renal and/or liver disease. Interns will enjoy a comprehensive exposure to all facets of transplant care by observing patients in the clinic, hospital, and operating room. Students will have the opportunity to observe kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant surgeries, including living donor kidney operations. Additionally, participants will visit the LifeLink of Georgia Organ Recovery Center where many organ procurements take place. They will also visit the histocompatibility labs to learn how organs are matched to recipients.
When: Two iterations of the program will be offered: from July 6 to July 17, 2026, and from July 20 to July 31, 2026. We will do our best to assign successful applicants to the dates of their choice, if possible. There will be no expected weekend or overnight responsibilities, although students may be offered the opportunity to observe organ procurement operations during these times, if they so desire.
Eligibility: Due to the growing popularity of the program, we will only consider undergraduate students currently in their 3rd (junior) or 4th (senior) years, with a minimum GPA of 3.6 or greater.
Application deadline: The deadline to be considered for the program is April 12, 2026. To apply, please send your CV (including current GPA) to the course director, Dr. Octav Cristea (octav [dot] cristea [at] emoryhealthcare [dot] org). Please include the phrase “Emory Summer Transplant Internship” in the subject line so that your application will be appropriately filtered and sorted. Please indicate your graduation year in the body of the email, and do not send in multiple applications. Successful candidates will be notified by early May. We regret that no housing, transportation, or stipend can be provided by the program.
Questions? Please contact program administrator Vicky Webb (vwebb [at] emory [dot] edu) or Dr. Octav Cristea (octav [dot] cristea [at] emoryhealthcare [dot] org), course director and transplant surgeon at Emory.
Emory Adult OCD & Anxiety Intensive Program Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences | Emory School of Medicine
Open to all Emory College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates
Are you interested in mental health, clinical care, advocacy, or research? Join the Emory Adult OCD & Anxiety Intensive Program for a meaningful hybrid summer internship experience at the forefront of evidence-based mental healthcare. Our mission is to increase access to the best treatments our field can offer by meeting people where they are, reducing barriers to care to improve outcomes and increase health equity, and providing approachable stepped care services.
The Emory Adult OCD & Anxiety Intensive Program provides specialized outpatient and intensive outpatient services for adults living with OCD and anxiety disorders. Our interdisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists delivers individualized, compassionate care — including exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, medication management, group and family therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches — to improve quality of life for patients and their families.
About the Internship
Interns will play an active role in a dynamic clinical environment, engaging directly with patients from the moment of initial contact and collaborating within an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists to deliver stepped care for OCD and anxiety disorders. The internship provides hands-on exposure to evidence-based treatment approaches, with opportunities to connect patients to community resources and contribute to the development of personalized, comprehensive care plans. Interns will also engage in advocacy and community-based outreach and dissemination, and are welcome to participate in ongoing research and quality improvement initiatives. Those interested in the academic side of clinical work are welcome to attend education and clinical supervision activities, and will have the opportunity to collaborate on — and lead — presentation and publication submissions.
Eligibility
This internship is open to current ECAS undergraduates in any major. This opportunity qualifies for Emory Pathways Internship Funding, which provides financial support for students pursuing unpaid or underfunded experiences. Learn more about eligibility and how to apply for funding here.
