Reading Journal 10- Emily Zhang

I have chosen the key-word fetishism.

DEFINITION: I think it means the worship of an object as having some sort of value beyond the literal sense.

PURPOSE: I intend to create a blog post. An example of this format is any of the multitude of food blogs, travel blogs, lifestyle blogs, etc. across the internet. Some of the generic conventions of this format are informal language, hyperlinks, images, and personal voice.

CONTENT: I intend to talk about my key-word in relation to fetishization of women of color, perhaps commodity fetishism, and other manifestations of the word fetish in modern language.

COURSE THEMATIC: I think that my key concept intersects/overlaps with this class in these ways: identity, symbolism, sexuality, minority identities, discrimination, language.

QUESTIONS: I am struggling with/ cannot seem to figure out/ do not know how to best format the content of my writing and integrate all of the different elements. I’m not sure what I would like more clarification on or need support with yet, but things may arise as I make more progress on the project.

SOURCES: I have decided to use the following five sources because they include content that I would like to also include in my writing, including a detailed history of the word or a discussion of the word in the modern contexts I’d like to connect to.
