Reading Journal 10 – Laura Zvinys

I have chosen the key-word HIV/AIDS.

DEFINITION: I think it is a sexually transmitted disease.

PURPOSE: I intend to create an infographic. An example of this format is a flyer, and some of the generic conventions of this format are images, data, and graphs.

CONTENT: I intend to talk about my key-word in relation to social perception and stigma.

COURSE THEMATIC: I think that my key concept intersects/overlaps with class in these ways: HIV/ AIDS connects with the class theme of binaries that we discussed in that people are viewed as either someone who has HIV or doesn’t. Often times, people make conjectures about people when they find out they have HIV and certain assumptions can be made as a result.

QUESTIONS: I am struggling with/ cannot seem to figure out/ do not know how to approach what aspect of HIV to focus on (scientific side or stigma side) I would like more clarification on how to know how much written content is sufficient when using an infographic format.

SOURCES: I have decided to use the following five sources, because: they focus on different aspects of HIV/AIDS; some focus on factual information and some discuss social stigma.
