I chose this meme above that has been circling all over TikTok these past few weeks. In this picture, we see a young boy (playing a character in the Disney Channel TV series A.N.T. Farm) who is apparently being interviewed by someone. What makes the meme so “memeable” is the pose that the boy adopts, an awkward lean into the mic with a blank stare, pursued lips, and thumbs in pockets. What makes this a readable image is this exact pose which I believe emits a sense of empathy; we know what the boy is feeling as we all have been there at some point in time, especially during our juvenile years. Awkwardness has always been memeable in this day and age because of its relatability. This seems to be straight-forward and does not carry forth any sort of double-meaning or irony, it simply is what it is depicting. We read this moment of awkwardness and come up with scenarios that might enact a similar sense of awkwardness.
