{"id":938,"date":"2022-12-18T23:05:15","date_gmt":"2022-12-18T23:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/queerreading\/?p=938"},"modified":"2022-12-18T23:05:15","modified_gmt":"2022-12-18T23:05:15","slug":"reading-journal-prompt-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scholarblogs.emory.edu\/queerreading\/reading-journal-prompt-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading Journal &#8211; Prompt 8"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For my midterm essay, I chose to write about bell hooks\u2019 piece \u201cIs Paris Burning\u201d and the concept of \u201cthe spectacle.\u201d In my argument, I cited page 150 of &#8220;Is Paris Burning?&#8221; as supporting evidence for Hook&#8217;s claim that the documentary undersells drag&#8217;s potential and capacity to challenge white supremacist ideologies. Contrary to appearances, the movie is not as inventive. Livingston, on the other hand, produces a work that commercializes a minority group for white spectators. Overall, I enjoyed writing this paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;These are what I think my strengths were:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Effectively drawing context<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thoroughly explaining my points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creating one overall argument and tying it back to my evidence throughout the essay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are what I think my weaknesses were:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Struggling to make clear connections: I feel as if some of my points were addressed in a very roundabout way. This is also because I struggled with finding the right words at times. I want to work on making my points more concise and straightforward.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Struggling with transitions: I feel as if I struggled to make my transitions in the essay feel repetitive and choppy.
